Comfort Concepts QCA is a family-owned business. We started in 1989, when custom closet systems were a relatively new concept in the residential market. At the time, most homeowners' only option was wire shelving or hiring a general contractor to frame out custom millwork. We provided a third option: professional custom storage at a reasonable price, designed by a specialist and installed by a dedicated team.
The Quad Cities has been our home and our market for our entire existence. We know this region — its housing stock, its neighborhoods, its homeowners, and the specific challenges that Midwest living creates for home storage.
What Has Changed in 35 Years
The materials have improved dramatically. Thermally fused melamine in 2026 is far superior to the products available in 1989 — better surface durability, wider range of colors and textures, more realistic wood grain options. Hardware has evolved similarly: soft-close mechanisms that were luxury items 20 years ago are now standard on every installation.
The design expectations have grown. Homeowners who were satisfied with a double-hang system in 2000 want islands, integrated lighting, and premium finishes today. The bar for what constitutes a quality custom closet has risen, and we have risen with it.
