In a Le Claire mudroom project, overhead baskets were designed for exactly that: gloves and hats in winter, sunscreen and caps in summer, swapped in minutes. In a Bettendorf walk-in closet, off-season clothing moved to upper shelving — out of sight but in reach — so the current season owns the prime rod space. Adjustable, re-pinnable shelving makes the twice-yearly swap a re-arrangement rather than a renovation.
The principle: every season’s gear gets a dedicated zone, and the zones trade prominence rather than fighting for the same shelf.
Where the Off-Season Actually Goes
For bulky seasonal storage — holiday bins, outdoor furniture cushions, winter equipment — the garage does the heavy lifting, behind doors. A garage project in Eldridge, Iowa put seasonal bins and chemicals into closed charcoal wall cabinets mounted high off the slab, because Quad Cities garage floors get wet with snowmelt and spring humidity.
